Once upon a time in Hollywood 2019

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2019

Directed By: Quentin Tarantino

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Starring: Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie.

I know a movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino it always end in a most satisfying way ever, we know some of the characters in the Movie are real life people and we are aware of their tragic end, so what is the story all about then?

Rick Dalton played by Leonardo Di Caprio was a washed out veteran Hollywood Actor who lives next door with the Polanski’s with then wife Sharon Tate year 1969, so here we have an actor whose career is already fading, Juxtoposing with a well known Director who just recently released a remarkably notable Movie Rosemary’s Baby 1968, with a beautiful wife who is 8 months pregnant with his child and has a promising career, while Dalton lives next door problematic with his fading career, and very alcoholic resulting him not being able to drive, making his stunt double/Best friend Cliff Booth his driver. Cliff has a pit bull dog named Brandy lives with him in his trailer home, he is also being rumored of murdering his wife, reason why he cannot get a stunt work in Hollywood.

Once upon a time in Hollywood is a story about Rick and Cliff both are fictional characters, intertwined with real life people like Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring who were murdered by the Manson’s Family back in August 1969, during the time where hippies are sporadically invading the cultural society, influencing young people between ages of 14 to lates 20’s with weird behaviours and a dose of LSD.

The story revolves around the daily routine of Cliff and Rick, which includes series of flashbacks as its narrative, and that narration pushes the plot to its progression, Cliff happens to pick up one of the hippies named Pussycat, whom he takes to the ranch where he used to work as a stunt double of Rick in Bounty Law, in which he encounters bunch of female hippies and a blonde girl named Squeaky.

What is Rick and Cliff’s involvement with the true to life murder of Sharon Tate and the rest of her friends in the house of Roman Polanski? they are only fictional characters on a true to life story that happened August 8 1969, you could expect there will be a big turn of history, a story that you would want to happened instead of the other.

Quentin Tarantino style and signature were all incorporated to the story line, the tension he builds during the encounters with Rick with the 4 hippies across the street while he is so drunk making an ice cold Margarita and Cliff with the hippies in the ranch has built enough tension, in which you expect blood and gruesomeness, knowing how messed up these Manson’s Family are.

It might not be one of the best ever written story of Tarantino but it has given me the best laugh ever as far as the Genre and his signature style is concern. Once upon a time in Hollywood makes you want to think otherwise instead of the brutal murder, as for Tarantino’s perspective if he will to retell the story he wanted this ending instead, they live happily ever after.
